I have been busy for the last year getting to know how to reclaim the Fuel Excise Duty back from France and Belgium. Those are the main countries where the majority of Irish Hauliers buy their diesel on the continent.
The other countries which will give a rebate are:
Italy | |
Spain | |
Slovenia |
This, below, is a résumé of what is involved for each country:
The first step is to get photocopies of the trucks’ registration books and also a copy of the leasing agreements for all vehicles aged 2 years or more that have been fuelling in these countries. Even if the trucks have been paid for, you will have to provide proof that the leasing agreement has been terminated and that you have ownership of the vehicles.
The documents needed are for the years relevant from 2013 to now. Only include the trucks that are shown on the fuel cards invoices.
You can only claim for fuel that was paid by credit cards, cash will not count.
Also you will have to provide the tachograph readings (manually) at the end of June and December for each trucks for France from 2013 onwards and usually monthly readings for Belgium.
We had to submit the claims for periods 01/01/13– 30/06/13 by 30/06/2016 so it is now too late for the first 6 months of 2013. Obviously we can start claiming for the following 6 months and for the following years now!
I will complete the forms myself on your behalf but the relevant Revenue Authorities will repay you directly via bank transfer.
As always do not hesitate to contact me if you are unsure with anything.
Kind Regards
